Tern has launched the Quick Haul Long, a compact longtail cargo bike.
The Quick Haul Long is built for heavy hauling with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 190 kg (419 lbs).
Powering the Quick Haul Long is a Bosch Cargo Line motor system, offering up to 85Nm of torque and 400% pedal assist.
“We launched the GSD in 2018 because we believed that a compact cargo bike made perfect sense in an urban environment,” stated Josh Hon, Tern founder.
“Little did we know how successful the compact cargo category would be. We’re in awe seeing the number of compact cargo bikes on the streets today in cities like San Francisco, Brussels, or Paris. Since our first GSD, we’ve learned a lot about how to make cargo bikes even better, and more efficient.
“The new Quick Haul Long maintains the GSD’s core features but brings it to market at a more accessible price point without compromising safety or reliability.”
The accessible price point is £3,500 for the UK market with Tern marketing it as “one of the most competitively priced premium cargo bikes on the market”.
However, Tern hasn’t looked to save money by cutting corners with safety remaining a top priority for the Quick Haul Long.
The frame and fork have been tested to meet the DIN79010 standard for 190kg (419 lbs).
In addition, the bike’s structural components like stem, seatpost, handlebar, and wheels have passed a battery of tests for this same 190kg load.
The Atlas rear rack can facilitate up to 90kg, with the brand’s patented Atlas double kickstand tested to hold up to 80kg.
“The cargo bike segment has exploded in popularity in recent years, with just about every brand introducing their version of a ‘cargo bike’,” added Hon.
“But unfortunately, testing and safety standards haven’t kept pace. Germany has recently published the first national testing standard for cargo bikes, DIN79010. We believe that any cargo bike claiming a MGVW over 120 kg should be tested to the DIN 79010 standard — but very few have been so far.”
For versatility, the Quick Haul Long resizes without tools to fit riders 155cm to 185cm tall (5’1” – 6’1”).
A wide range of Tern accessories are also available so that the bike can be outfitted to meet a family’s needs.
Bikes are available to order now via the brand’s UK and Ireland distributor, One Generation Ahead, and will begin arriving in bike shops in Europe and North America in August.
